My thanks to the continued sacrifices of the American Military community. Let’s not forget them after they come home. Let’s not forget them, ever. (Nor the devastation in the wake of Tornado damage, nor Japan, nor Haiti, nor New Orleans, etc….)
I can understand people being relieved after hearing of Bin Laden’s death, but ‘joyous’? This kind of thing reminds me of when people run around like idiots after a big professional sports win saying things like “we won” or “we’re number one”, etc. In reality, most of us Americans were not directly effected by Bin Laden’s terror. Sure, perhaps the world became a scarier place or perhaps we were inconvenienced with body scans at the airport. But most of us did not loose loved ones on September 11th, 2001. Most of us did not get deployed to dangerous places several times over. Most of us did not have to attempt at getting used to waiting. Most of us did not have to learn how to raise our kids on our own. And most of us did not experience the violence of war in and around our homes, our places of worship, and our children.
So everyone out there chill out a bit. I’m not saying ‘don’t be proud of your country’. Just remember that how ‘good’ you feel was purchased by that soldier who’s never going to walk quite right again and will need painful rehabilitation for the rest of his life.
Loss of life is still loss of life, even if it’s in the name of ‘justice’, even if it’s the demise of an enemy. I’ll be ‘joyous’ when there’s ‘peace on earth’.
